Embrace your whole identity
scientist

Women in Science, Mathematics and Academia
I found this snapshot filter, and thought - well finally I look like a scientist!! I grew up in a world where scientists did not resemble me. I never saw myself represented in many fields that I wanted to explore. I see that changing. It is slow. But I am here to help.
There are many intersections of my identity and the more I mentor undergraduate students, they more I see how complete intersections fo their identities shape their ideas and beliefs about their limitations and success. Are you interested in deeply observing your identity (as a student, professional, academic, scholar, writer, educator, entrepreneur, inventor, coder, creator etc.) to understand what parts of your identity belong to you, is shaped by your life conditions, is malleable and flexibly adapting? This is the place for you. I am honoured to be in this field, and as a Numeracy Professor I have studied how growth and fixed mindsets are nurtured in mathematical classrooms and during problem solving. I recognize how these mindsets influence the mind, beyond the math problem…into our lives, particularly for people who are on the brink of their professional growth. I hope to share through my own journey, an inspiration for all life long learners, such as scientists, science communicators, science educators and researchers to seek out knowledge that you act on. To push the limits fo the mind. To question any capacity limits that they might impose on their own learning. I am passionate about how the world connects to each other, across nature, society, environment, technology and the multiple complex spaces of life. I bring these all together to help teach my students very specific fields, but with a very holistic foundational knowledge.
